A Shout over Jordan
A group of singers in a Southern town put their faith in God and strive to get a Gospel recording contract. At the same time the local citizens fight the Ku Klux Klan to get an antipoverty program and Head Start. While the community is trying to improve itself a good looking young man comes to town and breaks the hearts of all of the women, both the young and the old. This play is chunked full of history, laughter and high drama as it tells the story that nearly every community expenrienced in the 1960’s when federal anti-poverty funds were provided for Head Start and other programs. Federal funds meant integration. Integration meant a certain clash with the Klan. The Klan was strong, but God was stronger! 21 characters. 12 scenes. 1965 period costumes.
